Hue Camera for Philips Hue App Reviews

Good App but needs some tweaks

The app functions as stated but I dislike the fact that as I am trying to zoom in on the tv the app constantly opens it options box. I would like it better if the options box only opened when I click on the gear not when I pinch zoom.

Create amazing ambiance

This app is a great addition to movie night it extends the ambiance of the scene to the rest of the room. Only issue Id say is that you need to have your phone camera running but that can be fixed by plugging in your phone to a power source.

Works as advertised

The zoom feature is nice and is missing in the other Ambilight type app, but sadly I dont think any of these light syncing apps will be a staple in my TV watching. The wifi delay between what happens on screen and when the lights actually change kills the immersion, and worse, the app doesnt work when you lock the screen. Im surprised nobody mentioned it, who wants to watch a movie with their bright phone propped on the coffee table in front of them, and no, lowering the screen brightness isnt a good enough solution. To the developers, making the app access the mic seems to allow background activity when your screen is locked in other Hue apps I use.

So cool! Much room for improvement

I love this app, does just what it says it will. I wish it it wouldnt not only dim light according to depth of color, but when the screen goes dark, I wish the lights would as well.

Great App

Pretty awesome, only rec would be to also have a dimmer switch to control brightness of the lights. That would take this app from great to prefect

Needs a selection option.

Works well as far as the lights and camera sync, but there is no zoom or selection option. You need to have your phone very close to the screen. Delay was not an issue for me.

Great app with room for improvement

The app does as it claims very well. Its also amazingly not a battery killer. In updates Id love to see the ability to set zones and assign lights to each zone to provide more depth of color as a posed to its overall single color capture.

kennydyno

I can not even add lights. There is no option to add bridge and when i tap the bridge button nothing happens. A total waste of money.

So Frustrating

When this app is working, it is excellent. The hue colors compliment the on-screen colors nicely. However, you only get to use the app once. Each time the app is launched it forgets the bridge (absolutely none of my other hue apps does this). There is no option to simply re-sync it. You have to uninstall, re-install and do the setup process every time you want to use this app. Its time consuming and more trouble than its worth. I would not recommend wasting money on this.

When it works, its great

When the app works it works like a charm. But I keep running into an issue where it loses connection with the bridge. There is no way to reconnect to bridge besides deleting the app and reinstalling it. Once reinstalled and bridge connects everything is ok until the next time you start the app.

Needs an update.

Doesnt work with new HomeKit bridge. Please fix!!!!!!

Cant use front camera??

Makes it very difficult to line it up with your tv on IPads.

Mostly Great

It is awesome and cool when it does work. My iPhone 6+ dies every time I watch a full movie with these. Thankfully it was my secondary phone; About to give it a shot with the 6s+. (Fingers crossed).

Works good

Yes, there is a slight delay due to connectivity, but that is not an issue with the app. Set it to "smooth transitions" and "normal" color intensity to minimize distraction. Well worth $4 to use Hue with any/all video. Uses a lot of battery and the phone gets pretty warm. Plug er in, find an easel to prop the phone and it works well. I use an old iphone4 that has no cell service but is connected connected to WiFi

Flawed

When Im holding the cam at the TV, it seems to appropriately adjust the the lights to different colors. The issue? I have my tv mounted about 5 feet off the ground. I have nothing to lean my phone on (for the duration of the movie) to watch the color. Im not going to hold my phone directed at the screen for the whole movie.

Interesting Idea, Too Many Inherent Issues

I really wish is worked well, but unfortunately the delay between the screen and the lights kills any practical usage of this app for most movies or games. I generally experience a 20-30 second delay when playing around with it. Also, the practicalities of propping up a device to point at the screen, and leaving the device on the whole time, makes the app very unwieldy to use.

Works as it should

Very responsive. Does exactly what it says it does. Very simple interface. The only thing I would like to see is placement of lights. If you could just link them with certain parts of the picture that would be legendary. Loving it so far. Keep up the good work!

love it!!!

to get the best out of the app make sure, when you have your phone pointed at the tv, to use pinching the screen to adjust the zoom, so that the tv fills the whole screen on your phone! awesome show, great job!!!!

Theres a better option now

This app hasnt been updated in a year. It could be better. Another app out there called hue TV allows you to focus in and draw a square around the TV you want to watch. It also gets updates. Dont waste your money on this old app.

Needs Improvement

I purchased the app thinking I could use the front facing camera and leave my device in the dock facing my tv instead of having to balance the thing with the back facing the tv. Between adding an option for front facing camera and better dynamic lighting (with regard to brightness), not bad.
